Warehouse Coordinator

Salary Range: $45,000.00 per year full-time 4 day work week plus employer-paid benefits
Start Date: August 28th, 2023

BACKGROUND:
The Orangeville Food Bank is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to supporting dignified food support to those
in need. We provide perishable and non-perishable food through in-person shopping and deliveries, pick up
reclamation food from local grocery stores, run a community kitchen program, and support local agencies
with a monthly food share. We also pursue proactive solutions designed to end hunger through advocacy
and by supporting local farmers and improving our local food system.

JOB FUNCTION:
The Warehouse Coordinator will operate a warehouse dedicated to hunger relief and the promotion of
healthy local food access. The Orangeville Food Bank has a common goal of safely providing food to those
in need while adhering to strict safety guidelines.
The position is hands-on, and the candidate must be able to carry out a variety of manual and computer
tasks associated with the receipt, storage and distribution of food products. These tasks include packing
orders, unloading deliveries, re-packing food products, operating warehouse equipment, driving a van or
refrigerated truck for food pickups/deliveries and general maintenance and cleanup. This position will have
some supervisory responsibilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Motivate and supervise a dedicated group of volunteers fostering an energizing and cooperative
environment.
 Effectively communicate the Food Bank’s mission and goals as well as day-to-day tasks.
 Provide ongoing workplace training to volunteers and operations staff members while ensuring
general maintenance and janitorial duties are accomplished.
 Facilitate a culture of continuous improvement.
 Oversee equipment and building/facility needs, maintenance, and repairs.
 Assist in the supervision of volunteers.
 Oversee product flow in and out of the facility and anticipate needs in conjunction with the Food
Manager and Volunteer Coordinator.

INVENTORY CONTROL:
 Support the Food Manager with inventory control, ensuring inventory counts are conducted
accurately and input into our computer system.
 Assign appropriate storage locations for products, and ensure instructions are carried out.
 Proactively communicate with the Food Manager about food product needs.

FOOD SAFETY:
 Work in tandem with the Executive Director, Food Manager, Volunteer Coordinator, and Community
Kitchen Coordinator on implementing the Food Bank’s food safety plan.
 Ensure the product received is inspected for quality prior to storage and distribution.
 Assign daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cleaning assignments, and ensure assignments are

completed including sweeping, moping, rafter sweeps, trash removal, temperature checks, vehicle
cleaning, and inspections for pest entry points at the base of doors or walls.
 Act as a key coordinator with the Food Manager in food recall situations overseeing proper product
disposal.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:
 Lead by example to provide exceptional customer service to the volunteers, donors, and staff of food
programs that source food items from the Food Bank’s warehouse.
 Assist donors and food programs with unloading or loading vehicles.

GENERAL WAREHOUSE:
This position is a hand-on, active managerial position.
 Represent the Food Bank to the media, donors and the public. This may include attending events,
speaking to groups, accepting donations and being in photographs.
 Operate a refrigerated truck or van to perform food pickups and deliveries as needed.
 Oversee daily operations of the warehouse and in other activities as required or as assigned by the
Executive Director.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 2+ years of supervisory experience
 Post-high school education or the equivalent of managerial experience
 Organizational and planning experience
 Food safety handling knowledge and certification preferred.

SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 Excellent communication skills: demonstrated ability to proactively communicate and build rapport;
listen and react appropriately; give and receive constructive feedback; present written and oral
information clearly and translate food safety requirements in simple terms.
 Approaches duties with a sense of urgency.
 Exhibits a friendly, professional demeanor and respect for others’ opinions and participation.
 Strong organizational and information management with attention to detail and accuracy.
 Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
 Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
 Ability to quickly learn new policies and procedures and navigate the language of food safety
compliance.
 Experience operating a pallet lifter.
 Valid Ontario driver’s license with vehicle insurance.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 Ability to use a computer and inventory control software.
 Accurately use basic math skills.
 Push/pull a pallet jack at 500 lb for 200 ft.
 Climb a step ladder.
 Be exposed to cold temps and occasionally work in a regulated refrigerated environment (below
freezing)
 Able to lift and carry food inventory weighing up to 65 lb.
 Ability to drive a 22 ft van. Experience preferred.
