Community Kitchen Coordinator

The Orangeville Food Bank is seeking an individual to fill the new  position of Community Kitchen Coordinator.   The Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, supervising and directing all aspects of kitchen operations supported by a dedicated team of volunteers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Preparing and packaging excess product including produce for redistribution to customers

Assist with inventory. Occasionally place food orders adhering to budget.

Collaborate with the Food Manager to develop new recipes based on available ingredients within the food bank.

Organize Kitchen workshops for community members to build skill and food diversity

Manage kitchen budget.

Ensure safe and hygienic food handling practices are learned and implemented by volunteers.

Create an inclusive, welcoming and supportive environment within the kitchen.

Engage, supervise and support volunteers.

Develop and maintain policies and procedures relating to kitchen coordination in accordance with Public Health and WHIMIS standards

Adhere to health and safety and safe food handling standards in all activities.

Carry out any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

A passion for food.

Safe Food Handling Certificate

Knowledge and skills in food safety, healthy cooking and nutrition.

Demonstrated capacity to work with people experiencing marginalization and poverty.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.

Demonstrated initiative and independence.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience managing volunteers.

Effective organizational, planning and time management skills to manage multiple demands.

Creativity, flexibility, adaptability, and a sense of humour are essential.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position works in a commercial kitchen with in a Food Bank beside a busy warehouse.

This is a physically demanding job.  There is constant standing, bending, and stretching; entering walk-in fridges and freezers for short periods of time; and a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.

This is a contract position for 20 hours a week for 12 months.

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required to assist with events and public food sorts
